I believe the past is relevant, sometimes more than others of course. In most cases we are seeing history being repeated, so it is most relevant.

Priorities

by Glenn Littrell
With billions of dollars going to no-bid contracts for private armies/mercenaries, aka "Blackwater". Six years and over 21 spending bills from a Republican Congress that this president never vetoed even once! Funding a war on the backs of our grand kids by not raising revenues to pay for it! Tax breaks for households making over $250,000.00 that the Republicans sold as a 'middle class' tax break by defining $250,000.00 as not being rich! This president only starts vetoing spending bills when they are presented by a democrat congress and justifies the veto by saying that the children of households making $85,000.00 do not need help with health coverage! 250k gets a tax break but 85k can't get help with escalating health care cost for their children? Who is this president and right-wing conservatives kidding? Hopefully there will come a time when most Americans realize that words like 'socialism', 'liberal' and 'political correctness' are code words used to create fear amongst the general population to scare them into making negative assumptions about ideals which at the very least should be considered for debate if not acceptance. The politics of fear, with code words and 'hot button issues', have controlled and subdued open discourse in this nation for the last six years. Religious leaders have given the 'keys to the temple' to the moneychangers in the name of super-capitalism, intolerance and fear. To many people confuse or economic system [capitalism] with our government system [democracy] and accept private profit at the expense of the public good as an acceptable model of behavior and far to many mistake capitalism as an extension of their religion.
