I believe the past is relevant, sometimes more than others of course. In most cases we are seeing history being repeated, so it is most relevant.

Trumps Love of the Military: continued

updates in red

Draft-dodging Trump tells Americans
‘If people don’t want to fight for our country they can leave’

"President Donald Trump spoke to the press outside the White House Wednesday on his way to North Carolina telling those complaining about him to “leave.”“If people want to leave our country, they can,” Trump said. “If they don’t want to love our country, if they don’t want to fight for our country, they can [leave]. I’ll never change on that, no.”
It’s an ironic statement from Trump because his father was able to get a doctor to diagnose him with bone spurs that prevented him from being able to go to war in Vietnam. Former Nebraska Senator Bob Kerrey accused Trump of lying and dodging the draft with a fake diagnosis.“He said, ‘I wasn’t eligible to go to Vietnam because I had bone spurs.’ You don’t grow out of bone spurs. I call on the president, get your feet x-rayed. Let’s see those x-rays. I want to see,” Kerrey said in an interview in March."

Glenn Littrell the problem with Trump is not that he didn't serve, There are many ways to serve without being in the military. The problem is that he used his privilege and wealth to get a questionable deferment, that he trivialized his avoidance of service, that he trivialized the service of others, and that in spite of his avoidance of personal service he is a chest-thumping 'chicken hawk' who advocates for thrusting others into harm's way. It is the hypocrisy of his failure to be a soldier while promoting his starry-eyed visions of himself being a heroic commander.

As SEALs Fought For Their Lives, Trump’s Account Sent And Deleted A TV Tweet

“Spicer, though, has not specifically said what Trump was doing between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 28, other than to say he was in the White House residence ― not in the Situation Room. That’s the hour ― 1:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. local time ― when the firefight in Yemen resulted in the deaths of some 30 people, according to news reports. U.S. forces had called in air strikes because of the ferocity of the resistance they encountered. At least 10 of those killed were women or children.”

Trump Brags About Serving Up American Troops to Saudi Arabia for Nothing More Than Cash

“Saudi Arabia is paying us for [our troops]. We have a very good relationship with Saudi Arabia,” Trump said. “I said, listen, you’re a very rich country. You want more troops? I’m going to send them to you, but you’ve got to pay us. They’re paying us. They’ve already deposited $1 billion in the bank.”

‘Dangerously wrong’ Trump gets rebuked by a former commanding general for brushing off troops’ injuries

“I heard that they had headaches, and a couple of other things, but I would say, and I can report, it’s not very serious,” Trump said during a news conference.

FORMER MARINE WALKS OUT OF TRUMP'S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS, CALLS PRESIDENT A 'DRAFT DODGER'

The president also came under fire for insensitivity towards the widow of Sergeant La David Johnson, who was killed in Niger in 2017. After his death, Trump spoke with Myeshia Johnson by phone, telling her that her husband "knew what he signed up for, but it hurts anyways."

More recently, the president was dismissive of the injuries sustained by American troops in an Iranian ballistic missile attack on Iraqi military bases, launched in retaliation for the assassination of Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani in early January.

At least 64 troops are now being treated for traumatic brain injury, caused by the concussive shock waves of the exploding missiles. But the president downplayed the severity of the incident, describing the injuries as "headaches" and adding, "I don't consider them very serious injuries, relative to other injuries that I've seen.
