If this was a conference on abortion, he would have no problem saying the lives of all unborn fetuses matter.
Or at the memorial for a fallen soldier, he would have no problem saying the lives of all soldiers matter.
Or at the funeral for a fallen Police officer, he would have no problem saying blue lives matter.
So why can't he say black lives matter?
When someone says "...lives of all unborn fetuses matter" that doesn't mean they care less about other lives. Pence wouldn't respond to that declaration by clarifying "...all lives matter."
He can't say black lives matter because that would offend the extreme right-wing of his party base.
A simple acknowledgment of the importance of one group as part of a larger group or another group does not automatically diminish any group.
